SIX DECADES OF FOOTBALL.
ONE STANDARD OF QUALITY.

About Mercury Sports

Mercury Sports has been part of football for six decades.

What began in the back of a shoe repair shop has grown into a trusted football equipment reconditioning company serving schools, programs, dealers, and individual athletes throughout the United States.

Through changes in ownership, advances in equipment, and generations of players taking the field, one thing has remained the same: do the work right and take care of the people who trust us with their equipment.

FROM SHOE REPAIRS TO THE FOOTBALL FIELD.

1966

MERCURY SPORTS IS BORN

Thomas “The Greek” Maglaris began reconditioning football equipment in the early 1960s from his shoe repair shop. As that work continued to grow, Mercury Sports was officially established in 1966.

What started as a local operation would become a business dedicated to helping football programs protect, maintain, and extend the life of their equipment.

2004

RECONDITIONING TO A HIGHER STANDARD

Following Tommy’s passing in 2004, Mercury Sports was purchased by three friends with lifelong connections to sports.

The new ownership joined the National Athletic Equipment Reconditioners Association (NAERA), and Mercury Sports began recertifying football helmets as a NOCSAE-Licensed Reconditioner.

The company also expanded into team sports and retail sales while continuing to build its reputation for quality equipment reconditioning.

2020

FOCUSING ON FOOTBALL

Darren Cato purchased his partners’ interests in 2020 and refocused Mercury Sports on what it does best: football equipment reconditioning and football equipment sales.

As a former football player and high school head coach, Darren understands the demands placed on coaches, equipment managers, programs, and athletes because he has experienced them firsthand.

That perspective continues to shape the way Mercury Sports approaches every order today.

FAMILY OWNED. FOOTBALL FOCUSED.

Behind every helmet is a player.

For the Cato family, Mercury Sports is more than a business.

Football has been part of Darren’s life as a player and coach, and that experience has created a simple standard for the company: treat every piece of equipment with the same level of care you would expect for your own family.

That means paying attention to the details, communicating with customers, and never losing sight of who ultimately depends on the work being done. Every order is a program counting on us to get it right.

Today, Mercury Sports remains focused on the fundamentals that have carried the company forward for generations: quality workmanship, dependable customer service, and a genuine understanding of the game.

We’re proud of where Mercury Sports started. We’re proud that our work is performed here in America. And we’re proud to continue serving the coaches, programs, families, and athletes who make football what it is.

Our promise is simple: we will treat your equipment with the same care we would expect for our own children.
